  "biographicalOrHistoricalInformation": "Buchbesitz: Privatbibliothek Hermann Wagner ; 1864-1876 Gymnasiallehrer am Ernestinum in Gotha, wo er Mathematik, Naturgeschichte und Erdkunde unterrichtete. 1876 wurde Wagner auf den neueingerichteten Lehrstuhl fu\u0308r Geographie nach Ko\u0308nigsberg berufen, von wo er 1880 an die Universita\u0308t Go\u0308ttingen wechselte, , wo er als Statistiker und mathematischer Geograf wirkte. Sein erster Schu\u0308ler wurde Wilhelm Sievers, spa\u0308ter war er Doktorvater von August Wolkenhauer. Er war Dekan der Philosophischen Fakulta\u0308t (1886) und Prorektor der Universita\u0308t Go\u0308ttingen. Begru\u0308nder des Geographischen Institutes der Georg-August-Universita\u0308t. Seit 1884 engagierte sich Wagner in der Deutschen Kolonialgesellschaft, u\u0308bernahm den Sektionsvorsitz in Go\u0308ttingen und las sowohl in Ko\u0308nigsberg wie in Go\u0308ttingen zur \u201eEntdeckungsgeschichte Afrikas\u201c. Um 1900 setzte er sich erfolgreich fu\u0308r die Errichtung eines geophysikalischen Observatoriums auf Samoa (1902\u20131921) ein, dessen Vorsitzender er bis 1913 war.",
